In early august 2018,severe flood not seen in last 100 years affected Kerala state in India due to unusually high rainfall during monsoon season. It is the worst flood in nearly a century, over 324 people died within a fortnight, while at least 280,679 people were evacuated. All the 14 districts of the state are placed on high alert. Out of 42 dams 35 are opened for the first time in history and all five overflow gates of Idukki Dam are opened at the same time after a gap of 26 years.
