Rajasthan is a state of India which is famous for its hospitality in all over the world. Most of the people there are involved in the tourism-related jobs, Rajasthan is one the biggest spot of tourism. There is a custom which Rajasthani people follow, they believe their guest as Gods, they welcome and treat them as of a God. There is a famed folk song “Padharo Mhare Desh” which says that “Welcome to my Country”. In India, there is a slogan – “Atithi Devo Bhav” which means “Guests are God” and this principle is a part of Rajasthan custom and culture, their welcoming style will take your heart you, it will make you visit there again.

    Rajasthani people religiously follow the dictum of the Vedas from birth till death. They follow “Parda System”, females cover their face with ‘Chunni’ which is also called ‘ghoonghat’, this is done to give respect to adults, females don’t face unknown people in Rajasthan. There are many customs followed in Rajasthan such as Child-Marriage, widows have to follow strict rules, Nata Pratha (in this women marries with men but she doesn’t have any rights on her husband) and there are many other such customs which has been stopped up to a greater extent but still followed in some areas.

Rajasthan is a big state where many rulers have ruled hence every part have different folk songs and dance, there are two prominent groups who have contributed in Rajasthan’s folk music they are Manganiyars and Langas. They sing ‘ragas’ i.e. songs for different purposes such as pre-monsoon, marriages, birth and many other functions. Sarangi, Kamayach, Dhols, Shenhai are some traditional instruments of Rajasthani Folk music. The dance form of Rajasthan is unique from all over India and are different in different regions of Rajasthan, some famous forms are chang, ghoomer, bhopa, tejali, and kathipuli. Ghoomer is one of the most famous folk dance of all originated from Udaipur. chang, ghoomer, bhopa, tejali, and kathipuli.

The most famous and state food of Rajasthan is Dal-Bati, it is a dish which is made up of dal (pulses) and wheat flour kneaded with yoghurt which is dipped in desi ghee. Ghee is used in almost every cuisine of Rajasthan. There is two types of Kachori famous in Rajasthan one is spicy (pyaaz or onion kachori) and the other is sweet (mawa kachori). Ghewar and Gheriya the special sweets which have originated from Mewar. Almost 70% of people in Rajasthan are vegetarians hence most of the dishes are vegetarians dishes only.

The architectural style and heritage of Rajasthan is different and diverse as its people and culture. The Western Indian architectural style, the styling in domes, pillars and ceilings in various forts and monuments are awesome. The Jain temple in Ranakpur, the M’ru-Gurjara Architecture, Beaux-Arts architectural styles along with an eastern and western blend of architectural style, the Umaid Bhavan Palace in Jodhpur built by  Maharaja Jai sign II. Jaisalmer Fort and Golden Fort built by  Rajput ruler Rawal Jaisal, the fort contains Jain temple, Havelis and many gates. In 2019 the Jaipur has been named as UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Rajasthan is a state where there has always been a strong influence on religion. Most of the people living in Rajasthan are Hindus(88.46%) and to be exact mainly Vaishnavas. People of other religion like Muslims(9.07%) and Jains(0.90%) are also found in Rajasthan. Apart from these, we can also see Christianity, Buddhism and Atheist at a very low population in some of the areas of Rajasthan. Rajasthan is the land of Rajputs so we can see Hindu people in the majority. But because of the advent of Mughals, the Muslim population also extended its wings in this state. There are many famous temples and important pilgrims in Rajasthan like Lodrakar and Ranakpur Jain Temple, Jagdish Temple and so on which shows the culture of religion in Rajasthan.

Rajasthan is a state of royalty and hence we can see a wide variety of art and handicrafts of the state which attracts the tourists as well as art-loving people. Rajput Painting, Medieval Painting and Phad Paintings are the most famous arts of Rajasthan. There are some things which you can only find in this state. People reserve their time especially for shopping in Rajasthan and this reasonable opportunity should not be missed by visitors. You can buy things like Garments, Jewellery, Carpets and more Rajasthani influenced items which are made by local people itself. Camel leather products like shoes, bags and journals are also available in cheap and best quality. Toys and Decoration pieces made out of sand or clay are one of the best quality things you can find here from local artists. The traditional headwear of Rajasthan known as pagri or safah can be found in most of the places which tourists buy to bring back it as a memory from the place. People who love to collect antiques can find many different things like possessions of the kings and buy them to add to their collection. We can also view different antiques in various museums of Rajasthan which has an outstanding collection of antiques and handicrafts.

7. Languages of Rajasthan

Rajasthan is the state of second-highest number of Hindi-speaking reason in its various dialects in India. As Rajasthan is a tourism place, people have learned Hindi or English or both to communicate with the tourists. We can see different regional languages like Marwari, Malvi, Mevati, Brajbhasha, Harauti, Bagri and Jaipuri/Dhundari are prominently spoken in this vast state in which the most famous language is Marwari. There are hundreds of poets and writers of Rajasthani language which are famous all over the country. The folk literature of Rajasthan is very rich and varied in its nature and we can see the influence of language in different types of cultural events like folk songs and folk-plays known as khayals. These different dialects are spoken in different parts of Rajasthan.

Rajasthan is a state of colourful and vibrant attires, heavy ornaments and designer dress. These items are not just fancy but they are the identification of the social and economic status of religion and region of Rajasthani people. Men wear dhoti and kurta along with a kind of turban headgear known as pagga or safa. They also wear Angrakha which is a type of upper garment made of cotton on special occasions and festivals. People also replace dhoti with Chudidar Pyjama in some of the regions. The traditional wear of women in Rajasthan is Ghagra and Kanchli. Odhni is off of the mandatory cloth for women to wear as a veil which represents as a token of respect in front of elders. Rajasthan is also famous for its ornaments of metals and materials. Women use to wear Gems-studded gold and silver ornaments along with their traditional dress. The footwear is also famous all over the country which is known as Mojaris or Jootis which are made from animal skin and is embellished with embroidery. Men and women both wear these footwear. The people of Rajasthan dress beautifully every day to celebrate each day. This distinct dressing culture represents the culture different from others and the couture is a classic which is celebrated all over the world.

9. Festivals of Rajasthan

Rajasthan celebrates a large number of festivals in which some festivals are the main festivals of Rajasthan like Camel Festival, Desert Festival, Holi and Teej. The festivals of Rajasthan includes many interesting traditions, rituals, ethnicity and celebrations. It represents the culture of the state by its myriad fairs and festivals in true Rajasthani style. Festivals like Rajasthan International Folk Festival celebrated in Jodhpur is celebrated around Sharad Purnima and more than 200 musicians attend this festival from all over the world which makes it a treat for people who love art and music. Desert festival is celebrated for 3 days which celebrates the delight of the desert. This festival is an absolute bonanza and celebrated in a very charming way. Fairs like Pushkar Fair and Nagaut fair are some of the festivities attracted by a lot of people. The famous Teej festival of Jaipur is celebrated all over the country in which women do fast for their husband for her husband’s health and prosperity. There is also a Jaipur Literature Festival which represents the art and culture of the state of Rajasthan. Many other several festivals like Kite Festival, Camel Festival, Mewar festival and so on are celebrated in Rajasthan which are the festivals of enormous joy and adventure.
