If you are visiting Kazakhstan and are interested in tasting local dishes of Kazakhstan then you are at the right place. Kazakhstan- a country of more than 17 million people has its own culture and traditional dishes. In past, the people of Kazakhstan were nomads, so their main item in almost every food is meat. With time they have also borrowed some dishes from neighboring countries.

Kazakhstan dishes are inspired by other Turkish countries like Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and countries like Russia and Iran. Their own meals are centered on meat like lamb, horse, beef, and camel. The majority of the population of the country is Muslim, so it is not possible to find pork meat here. Kazakhstan is one of the largest countries in consuming tea, and black tea is the most preferred drink here.

If you are a vegetarian and are going to visit Kazakhstan, then you should be careful all the time with the dishes you are having. Even if the Kazakhstan dishes are not made with meat, they can be prepared with meat broth. Kazakh people’s diet is based on everything provided by mother Earth fruits, vegetables, meats, fish, and milk. When a person hears first time about eating horse meat it may sound unbelievable but according to the beliefs of Kazakhis, a horse is a man’s best friend, a good mode of transportation, and a source of food.

Let’s explore some of the top food of Kazakhstan

Shelpek

Dish of Kazakhstan | Pic Source: Google

It is a traditional dish of Kazakhstan made with flour, sugar, milk, yeast, baking powder, and salt. Once the dough is prepared, it is shaped in the form of small balls then baked in hot oil. Shelpek is basically a flatbread common throughout central Asia. Its demand significantly increases especially on Fridays, as the day is considered holiest in the Muslim’s beliefs. The flatbread is made in a frying pan or in a tandoor and is made to honor the deceased who have passed away. Once these flatbreads are ready, they are folded and then served with jam, cheese, or cream. Generally eaten in the afternoons with a cup of tea.

Kazy is a meat sausage made primarily with horse meat and spices. This dish is very common in central Asian countries like Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan. Traditional Kazy in Kazakhstan is made with the meat and fat taken from the ribs of the horse. As we had discussed in the starting that according to historical texts, the ancient Kazaks were nomads and their main source of food was meat. So When they slaughter a horse for meat, then it was not possible to consume the whole horse in one go, thus to conserve that meat they invented Kazy which slowly becomes part of the culture. To preserve the meat, it is seasoned with garlic, pepper, and salt. It can be eaten raw or smoked based on the taste you preferred. Kazy can be used to prepare many other dishes.

Pilaf

Dish of Kazakhstan | Photo Source: Google

Large pieces of meat cooked with onions and carrots in a pan till the meat gets a crust on it. Then the rice is added to this chicken along with water and boiled for some time till the rice gets cooked. That is basically the way to cook the world-famous Kazak dish. This food of Kazakhstan holds a special place in the society of Kazakhstan as it is the symbol of prosperity and wealth. Pilaf in Kazakhstan is made by cooking rice and meat together. If you are cooking both separately, it means you are following the cooking steps of Iran or maybe Azerbaijan. A must dish to have on festivals this dish is decorated with dry fruits, and are considered lucky to be consumed on special occasions like marriages.

Dish of Kazakhstan | Photo Source: Google

We can safely assume Beshbarmak as the national dish of Kazakhstan because this dish is delicious and is related to Kazak’s history and culture. The translation of the dish name means ‘five fingers. ‘given this name because in the past nomadic tribes used to eat this with their hands. Cooked, horse, mutton, beef, or a combination of all three types of meat is used to make this food of Kazakhstan and then served with local pasta.

To serve, a special sauce is made of meat broth, onion, salt, and pepper. Both are served side by side. With time there are now many varieties of Beshbarmak that originated and are available also.

This list of Haiti dishes mentioned in the blog is based on the surveys, reviews of tourists, and their popularity on travel websites.

Poulet Aux Noix

Top 10 dishes in Haiti/Photos by Google

Legs and thighs are the main chicken pieces that are used in this Haitian dish. Chicken is marinated, steamed, and then pan–fried. Other veggies used are tomatoes, onions, and paste of tomato to give the golden brown color to the meat.

Cashews are cooked in water and drained before adding to the chicken. Poulet Aux Noix is a traditional Haitian dish generally prepared during Sunday lunch and is accompanied by plain rice or rice with green peas.

Pikliz

Top 10 dishes in Haiti/Photos by Google

Joumou

Top 10 dishes in Haiti/Photos by Google

This Haitian dish has a very special place in Haitian culture. In the past, the dish was only preserved for the white masters, in the time when Haiti was a slave country. At the time of their independence, they celebrated their freedom by serving Jomou to each other on the streets. It’s a soupy dish traditionally cooked with pumpkin. The pumpkin is sliced and then boiled with pieces of beef, potato, and other vegetables such as carrots, cabbage, and onions. Seasonings like salt, herbs, and spices are added. In some places in Haiti, people also used some pasta or macaroni and a small amount of butter or oil. Before serving, a little lemon juice is also added. The hot soup is served with bread dipped in it.

TassotKabrit

Top 10 dishes in Haiti/Photos by Google

Have you ever tried goat, if yes then you must be aware of its rich flavor, if no then this is your chance to taste the mouthwatering flavor. TassotKabrit is a famous dish in Haiti, that mixes the crunchiness of meat with sweetness. This traditional Haitian dish generally made with the fried goat meat especially the goat leg. If you are trying to make Tassotkabrit, then my advice is to buy fresh meat from a butcher but if that is not an option, frozen meat can also be used. Common goat meat is very fatty, so try to get some lean goat leg meat. Strips of lean goat meat are marinated with orange juice and lemons before they are fried. They are fried until they become crispy and brown. TassotKabrit is a popular Haitian food that can be found in almost all restaurants or street junctions and it can be served with rice or stew.

Makawoni Au Graten

Macaroni au gratin or makawoni au graten is a traditional food of Haiti made with macaroni and cheese. This can be prepared in many ways but the main ingredient used is Gouda cheese.
As the name suggests it is a warm soup, preferred on rainy days. It can be made with many types of vegetables and meat. Bouyon beef as the name suggests includes beef, bouyon poule has chicken fillings. For fillings, chunks of potato can be used or in some cases, sweet plants can be used. Soup can be made in any way but the fact remains the same that it is served to boil hot because the name bouillon is derived from the word boil.

Lambi

Top 10 dishes in Haiti/Photos by Google

It is a historical dish of Haiti, made from the conch which was also used as the horn in the past to warn people of dangers from revolutionaries or slaves. After the shell of the conch is cracked, the meat inside becomes tasty and grilled with butter.

Thinking of visiting Vietnam for the first time? Then we can help you with a glance at Vietnam food and some tips about what to avoid. For the first-timers in Vietnam, selecting food from a variety of dishes can be hectic along with the fact that you have to decode the language first. In Vietnam, before eating, locals say “chucngonmieng” which means “enjoy your meal”, which you will surely do.

Vietnam people love their food and they abundantly used the options available to them and use their special ingredients to make the meal memorable. In every area of Vietnam, we are sure that you will find good food and unique taste. In northern Vietnam, you will find food a little bit simple, in southern Vietnam, you will taste sugar in food.

When thinking about Vietnamese cuisine, the first word/comes in the mind is Pho, but the natural habitats of Vietnam provide much more than this one single dish. Vietnam is full of vibrant colors and flavors. If you are in love with noodles or soups then congratulations! You have found your dream place in Vietnam. Wherever your eyes go, you will find an option for soup irrespective of place. You can’t have enough Vietnamese dishes in one visit, so try to eat everything from local markets to street vendors and famous restaurants. One tip for food lovers, if the dish you had ordered looks delicious to you then go for it, in most cases, it is actually tasty.

So, Let’s start our article of 10 food of Vietnam: Famous dishes of Vietnam

Pho (Noodle Soup)

Top 10 foods of Vietnam, photo: google

When I visited the capital city of Vietnam my first impression was the abundant food options available there and almost all of them have a word written Pho. You can find this delicious dish in Vietnam everywhere, and you can enjoy it in your whole tour from the movement you land to the movement you fly back to your nest. You can find locals sitting on the small plastic chairs in the day or night, slurping through their bowls on small plastic tables. If you want to have a real experience of Pho you should also try to sit with locals and share a bowl or two. Locals here are very friendly and maybe you will make some good friends here. Two major varieties of Pho are Pho Bo (noodles with beef) and Pho Ga (noodles with chicken). This Vietnamese dish is basically a broth with flat noodles and herbs as flavors and garnished with lime, sprouts, basil, cilantro, and red chilies. Trying a pho can be a real challenge sometimes and I am not talking about the challenge to fit yourself in tiny chairs of local outlets, I am talking about the small red chilies which are very spicy and if you are not in habit of spicy food, it can upset your stomach.

Banh Mi (sandwich)

Top 10 foods of Vietnam, photo: google

Banh mi is originated from southern Vietnam but is commonly available in the whole country and in my opinion, the best Banh mi is available in the Southern and in some central parts of Vietnam. This Vietnamese dish is commonly found on the food carts on the roadside. Margarine is spread on the inside of the bread and is filled with vegetables, pork belly, cucumber, and pork floss. Sink into its softness and watch it melt into your mouth.

Bun Cha

Top 10 foods of Vietnam, photo: google

Bun Cha is the most liked dish of Vietnam by locals and is one of the favorite foods for lunch. This local dish becomes an international sensation when president Barack Obama was pictured with Anthony Bourdain, rolling up their sleeves to dip noodles in ground pork in Nuoc Cham. Nuoc Cham is a sauce made with fish, sugar, and vinegar.

Make sure that when you eat Bun Cha, add green vegetables like lettuce, cilantro, sprouts, and banana blossoms in your dipping bowl. This Vietnamese dish is made up of rice with seasoned pork belly and salad. They all swim in the bowl with fish sauce in it.

Ca PheTrung (Egg Coffee)

Top 10 foods of Vietnam, photo: google

The one thing which makes you happy in the morning in Vietnam is coffee. The reason behind this is, the coffee in Vietnam is different. Coffee in Vietnam is very common because of French influence and you can find roadside stalls. Authentic coffee of Vietnam is egg coffee in which you can find extra condensed milk, extra sugar with whipped egg on top of hot coffee. This invention is treated as a dessert by many tourists and it is surely the best drink in Vietnam which you can eat. Many of the restaurants in Hanoi provide variations of egg coffee, you can order it hot or cold based on your taste. Variations of Ca PheTrung are available like chocolate, rum, or beer.

In Vietnam, dishes made with beef are very limited, so if you are a beef lover, go for the Bun Bo, it will surely be a once in a lifetime experience. Sliced beef grilled with fresh noodles topped with fresh herbs makes it very delicious. In some places, Bun Bo is made with pork. Other ingredients used are lemongrass, shrimp, and lime to enhance the flavor. Bun Bo dish of Vietnam is easily available in the country.

Hai San (Seafood)

Some Tips on things to avoid in Vietnam

Now some useful tips on what should be avoided in your trip to Vietnam. The first point is never to drink the tap water, always use bottled water and make sure that seal is intact. Another main thing is that always touch what you are eating, as the meat in Vietnam is very cheap and sometimes you can end up eating something strange. Coffee is very famous in Vietnam and is much liked by tourists but some of the local vendors used cheap chemicals in the place of condensed milk, so try to have coffee from a decent stall or where locals are getting their coffee from.

From the health point of view, please avoid any dish made from raw blood of duck or pig as it is not safe to consume raw blood and this scenario can be life-threatening. Avoid drinking cold soups in Vietnam, you can find rarely any cold soup in the whole country because they drink hot soups to avoid any chances of unwanted bacteria or other dangerous microorganisms in their food, so if your soup is not hot enough to burn your inside, then think again before drinking it. And last avoid having dog meat if you can, not because it is not safe, just because dogs are being kidnapped and sold as meat to dog meat restaurants. Last warning for tourists to avoid unwashed fruits because of the use of pesticides, if you are going to eat fruits which are eaten with their skin on like apples, then please wash them first properly.
