India is a big country with immense scope for growth and innovation. But the increasing use of drugs among youth is becoming an alarming situation. The influence of Western culture and the easy availability of drugs are turning the bright future into darkness. Social workers and the government are running awareness programmes to guide youth in the right direction.

According to the government data, children aged 10 to 17 years are being exposed to drugs, and many are already addicted to different substances. That’s why we need more social programmes to educate and protect our youth, ensuring a brighter future for India.

What is Drug Abuse?

Drugs are basically used to cure diseases. When drugs are used for the wrong reason, it’s called drug abuse, like to escape from a problem, to feel “high”, or to fit in a circle.

Drug Abuse can:

harms the body and mind.

Affect study, job, relationship.

Lead to addiction, where you lose control over your mind.

Weaken financially.

Advice for the Addicted

Drugs make you feel better for a short time; a temporary escape can cause long-term damage.

Terms like “I can quit anytime” are myths. These terms are used by my friends, and now I am seeing them struggle to quit.

If someone says that “Everyone tries it”, it’s not true. Ask yourself a simple question: Are top-level athletes doing this thing, or any high-value person using this thing? You’ll get your answer.

Why Do Students and Youth Fall into Drugs?

Peer Pressure: Students often take drugs to fit into a group. They do this to gain acceptance from friends or a social circle.

Stress: Many use drugs to escape situations in their lives. It may give temporary relaxation, but it creates bigger problems later.

Curiosity: Some try drugs out of curiosity — “what it feels like” or “what happens after I try this.” What starts as an experiment often turns into a habit.

Emotional Pain: In moments of deep pain, people look for quick relief. Drugs may seem like an easy escape, but they never truly fix the problem.

Why Is It Important to Say No?

Physical and Mental Health: Drugs can destroy both physical and mental health. They directly impact organs like the liver and kidneys, making you sick and exposing you to dangerous diseases. Poor physical health also affects mental health – when the body suffers, the mind suffers too.

Career: Addiction can ruin the future. It takes the person away from their goals and keeps them trapped in a cycle that revolves only around drugs.

Consequences: Addiction breaks trust with loved ones, destroys finances, and damages the image. It makes them lose control of their mind, often causing anger and frustration.

How to “Say No” and “Stay Strong”

Build Self-Confidence to Refuse: Don’t fear saying “No.” Strong people make smart choices. Never hesitate to reject things that harm your life.

Choose the Right Friend Circle: Your friends reflect your personality. Be around people who lift you, not those who make you feel small or pressured.

Engage in Positive Activities: Activities like sports, art, or hobbies keep your mind occupied and positive, leaving no room for bad habits.

Talk to a Trusted Person: A trusted person gives good advice and helps you make better life decisions.

Importance of Open Conversations at Home

The family is the biggest support system. They always want the best for their child. Talking to parents can help find solutions to problems. Conversations with loved ones are comforting and can clear doubts, ease stress, and make any drug addict feel supported. When family stands with you in your tough times, half of the problems already feel lighter the moment you share them.

How to Overcome It If You’re Already Involved

Seek Professional Help and Counselling: If someone’s addicted, getting professional help is the best step. Experts provide treatments, guidance, and support without judging.

Rehab and Support Groups: The government has launched several initiatives, like Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. Spiritual organisations and NGOs also run programmes to help youth recover from drug abuse.

Understand That Asking for Help Is Strength, Not Weakness: Asking for help takes courage. Many fear opening up, but sharing problems with loved ones or professionals can change everything. Support is always available – you just need to take that first step.

Conclusion

Making India a drug-free country is not an easy job. We all have to make collective efforts to make this campaign successful. Investing in education and sports would help to change the focus of youth towards sports and education. The journey is tough, but together we can motivate youth to live a drug-free life.

World Brain tumor Day is celebrated on 8 June to spread awareness among the people about brain tumor. In 2000, Deutsche Hirntumorhilfe declared 8 June as World Brain Tumor Day. In 1998, he funded 500 registered members from 14 Nations. The goal is to give support and raise funds to help patients and their families.

According to the National Health Portal, every day 500 people are diagnosed with a brain tumor. People wear gray colored ribbons to support patients on World Brain Tumor Day. On the occasion of World Brain Tumor Day, many organizations conduct seminars, conferences and events to educate people about brain tumors. Those who are suffering from Brain Tumors are encouraged to share their story to inspire others. The day serves as a platform for researchers, doctors and medical professionals to share latest advancements in the diagnosis and treatment of brain tumors.

Brain Tumor is of two types: Noncancerous (Benign), and cancerous (Malignant).

What is Brain Tumor?

Brain Tumor is a growth of abnormal cells that occur in the Brain. When benign and malignant tumors grow, they can cause Brain damage. Benign is non cancerous; they grow slowly and do not spread to other parts of the body but they can cause many serious issues. Malignant cancer is cancerous; it grows rapidly and spreads to other parts of the body.

Symptoms of Brain Tumor

Nausea or vomiting

Drowsiness

Fatigue

Confusion

Seizures

Sleep Problems

Memory Problems

Headache

Blurred Vision

Difficulty in walking

Treatment For Brain Tumor

Treatment of Brain Tumor depends on the size, location and type of the tumor.

The best treatment for Malignant Tumor is surgery.

The goal is to remove cancer from the brain or any part of the body without causing damage to the healthy part of the brain and other body parts.

Other treatments include radiation therapy and Chemotherapy.

Radiation therapy is the use of high energy X-rays to destroy tumor cells. Radiation therapy is used to slow or stop the growth of a brain tumor.

Chemotherapy is the use of drugs to destroy Brain Tumor cells. The goal of chemotherapy is to stop the growth of Brain Tumor cells. Steroids are also used for the treatment of Brain Tumors.

What to do on World Brain Tumor day

Spread Awareness – Conduct seminars in the locality and aware people about the early signs and symptoms.

Brings people together – On World Brain tumor Day, support people who are suffering from Brain Tumors.

Help Financially – Give donations to people who are suffering from brain tumors and unable to afford the treatment.

Conclusion

Brain Tumors are not a common disease or a problem. The people affected by brain tumors should have regular check ups which can help in shortening risk factors. If you are suffering from any of the symptoms that are discussed above you should consult the doctor as soon as possible to reduce the Brain Tumor risk.
The post World Brain Tumor Day : Symptoms, Treatment and Conclusion first appeared on Jugaadin News .

World Sickle Cell Awareness Day is celebrated every year on 19th June. The aim is to increase public knowledge and awareness of the patients and their families suffering from sickle cell disease.

In 2006, United Nations and World Health Organizations celebrated 19th June as World Sickle Cell Awareness Day. In this disease, patients have sickle-shaped red blood cells. These sickle-shaped blood cells stick together and block blood flow and cause difficulty in breathing. People suffering from sickle cell RBCs face anemia, infection, and other health problems. This disease also harms a person’s brain, kidneys, liver, joints, skin, and bones. According to WHO, every year millions of people are affected by sickle cell disease.

Causes of Sickle Cells Disease

Sickle Cell Disaese is caused when there are changes in genes that tell the body to make iron rich compounds in the red blood cells. Red blood cells carry oxygen to the body parts. Sickle cells get associated with red blood cells and become stick & rigid. If both parents have this disease, then there are chances that the child will born with Sickle cell disease. If one of the parents has this disease, then the child is more likely to have minor Sickle cell disease.

Symptoms of Sickle Cells Disease

1. Delayed Growth or Puberty – Red Blood cells provide oxygen and nutrients to the body to grow. The shortage of healthy blood cells can slow the growth and delay puberty in teenagers.

2. Anaemia – Anaemia occurs due to shortage of red blood cells. Healthy red blood cells usually live for 120 days but sickle cells die in 10-20 days. This causes the shortage of red blood cells in the body causing anemia. With Anemia comes other problems like fatigue and body pain.

3. Swelling of Hands and Feet – This condition occurs when blood flow is blocked in the bones and it mostly occurs in children who are suffering from this disease.

4. Vision Problems – Tiny blood vessels that supply the blood to eyes can become plugged with sickle cells. This damages the retina and leads to vision problems.

5. Episodes of pain

6. Frequent infections

7. Severe headache

8. Sudden weakness on one side of your or your child’s body.

9. Change in alertness

10. Trouble speaking

11. Trouble seeing

12. Trouble walking

13. Fever

14. Coughing

15. Trouble breathing

16. Pain in bones

How to celebrate World Sickle Cell Awareness Day:-

Spread Awareness about the disease and educate the people on how to tackle it.

The United Nations & World Health Organization conduct some activities to support people who are suffering from this disease.

Make health services more accessible – Help patients to understand all of their prevention and treatment options.

Encourage research for the treatment of the disease

Seminars are to be conducted to inform people about the disease.

Motivate people to become blood donors. Person suffering from sickle cell disease occasionally needs a blood transfusion.

Treatment of Sickle Cells Disease

Blood Transfusion:- Patients who are suffering from HbSS and HbSB0 (Types of Sickle Cell Disease) often requires the blood transfusion. Blood Transfusion is used for prevention of complications associated with sickle cell disease.

Blood and Marrow Stem Cell Transplant:– Old Blood Marrow Stem cells replace with good Blood marrow stem cells in this process. It is replaced with a healthy person’s marrow and it’s a very risky procedure.

Eat a healthy Diet :– Take a healthy diet and drink 10 glasses of water every day.

Possible Future Treatments:- Healthcare providers and Researchers are constantly finding new treatments.

Prevent infection :- Stay away from infection and consult a doctor at the right time.

World Thalassaemia Day is celebrated every year on 8 May. It is celebrated to create awareness regarding thalassaemia disease among patients. In this disease, the body produces less hemoglobin and red blood cells.Due to this disease, the body gets weaker and destroys the other blood cells. Thalassaemia is inherited from parents to children.

In 1994, Thalassaemia International Federation(TIF) announced 8 May as World Thalassaemia Day. Founder of TIF created this day in the memory of his son and other patients who fought this disease. This day is dedicated to thalassaemia patients. Thalassaemia may not get diagnosed until 2-3 years of age. If both of your parents have thalassaemia then there are chances of you having thalassaemia disease. It is mostly common in Africa, Asia, and Mediterranean countries like Turkey or Greece.

Causes of Thalassaemia :-

Thalassaemia is caused when your body produces less hemoglobin. It develops when there is some abnormality in genes. If any of the parents have thalassaemia then it is more likely to have minor thalassaemia in the child. If both of the parents have thalassaemia then chances get increased you are more likely to get the disease.

Thalassaemia is of Major Two types- Alpha and Beta

Alpha Thalassaemia:- Alpha thalassemia occurs when some or all of the 4 genes that make hemoglobin (the alpha-globin genes) are missing or damaged.

Beta Thalassaemia:- Beta thalassemia is caused by damaged or missing genes.

Symptoms Of Thalassaemia

Folic Acid Supplementation:- Folic Acid Supplementation is necessary for thalassaemia patients to develop red blood cells. It can help body to make healthy blood cells.

Luspatercept:- It is an injection that is given to patients every three weeks to make more red blood cells. It is an approved drug in the USA.

Blood and Marrow Stem Cell Transplant:- Old Blood and Marrow Stem cell replaces with good Blood and marrow stem cell in this process. It is replaced with a healthy person’s marrow and its a very risky procedure.
