World Mental Health Day is celebrated worldwide on 10 October every year. Its objective is to spread awareness among people about mental health so that people all over the world take not only physical health but also mental health issue seriously and become alert towards it. If a person has any kind of mental problem, instead of ignoring him, talk to him.  Mental healthcare should be given as much importance as physical health. This year, the theme of World Mental Health Day is ‘Mental Health Promotion and Suicide Prevention’.

It was first celebrated on October 10, 1992, at the initiative of Deputy Secretary-General Richard Hunter. World Mental Health Day is supported by the World Health Organisation (WHO) by raising awareness of mental health issues. WHO also supports developing technical and communication material.
