World day for Safety and Health at Work

On April 28, ILO (International Labor Organization) observes world day for safety and health for the prevention of accidents and diseases at work. The World Day for Safety and Health at Work is a significant day to raise awareness of how to make work safe and healthy and of the need to raise the political profile of occupational safety and health.

According to ILO Director-General, Almost 3 million workers die each year from occupational accidents and work-related diseases. This is an unacceptable and avoidable human cost. We can and must reduce and eliminate such deaths, injuries, and diseases from work.”

Being an employer, it is the responsibility of each one of us to provide infrastructure, laws, and services, so as to stop the number of deaths. As an employer, we should provide a healthy and safe working environment.

At this time of COVID 19 pandemic, some occupational safety and health tips for workplaces should be adopted in measure to stop the spread of disease. Promote physical distancing and good hygiene at your workplace and if possible give preference to telework. Provide more protective masks and types of equipment to workers who are more at risk. Workers should also cooperate with employers and adopt healthy work behaviors. Proper guidance on occupational safety and a healthy environment can help to combat the crisis.
