Regular physical exercise of low intensity such as walking or cycling is important for health. World Bicycle Day is celebrated every year on 3 June. Bicycles have been used for 2 centuries and are simple, environmentally friendly, and sustainable means of transportation. Professor Leszek Sibilski, from the United States with his Sociology class led a grassroots campaign to recognize one day for the cycle and its benefits. In the year 2018, The United Nations General Assembly declared 3 June as World Bicycle Day, to celebrate longevity, uniqueness, and versatility of cycle. 56 other countries supported the world bicycle campaign.

Benefits of Riding Cycling

Cycling is the best physical activity to stay fit. Cycling is a low-impact exercise and can be performed by people of all ages, from children to adults. Regular cycling is the best way to reduce the risk of health diseases associated with an inactive lifestyle.

Cycling strengthens your leg muscles and improves lower body functions. It targets your glutes, hamstrings, calves, and quads.

With the growing age balance of the body declines, cycling helps your body to improve overall balance, coordination, and posture, and prevent falls and fractures.

3. Cycling is a low Impact Exercise

Cycling is easy and is a great option for those who have a joint concern or overall stiffness, especially in the lower body.

4.  Good for Mental Health

Daily cycling for 10 minutes can make you feel energized. Exercise releases endorphins, which help you feel better while lowering stress levels. Cycling is a combination of physical exercise and exploring outdoor views. You can ride solo, or with a group of friends.

5. Helps in Weight Management

Cycling helps reduces lower body fat levels, which promotes healthy weight management. Riding cycling for one hour burns 400 to 1000 calories.

World bicycle day encourages member states to develop a culture of cycling in society for physical and mental health well being.
