1. Trivendra Singh Rawat

Trivendra Rawat was born on December 20, 1960, in Uttarakhand. Rawat is an Indian Politician of Uttarakhand and belongs to BJP. He is the 8th and present Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. Having a master’s degree in Journalism from Birla Campus in Srinagar, Rawat stepped into politics in the year 1979. He was a member of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh till 2002 and also served as the State’s Minister of Agriculture. 

Rawat has been into controversy for many reasons. In 2017 he was accused of giving preference to Garhwali language over Kumaoni language and the major controversy sparked in the year 2019 when he said that cow exhales oxygen and being in proximity to cows could cure tuberculosis.

2. Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri

Retired Major General Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri was born on October 1, 1934.  He has served twice as Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, the first time during the year 2007 to 2009 and the second time from 2011 to 2012. He is a senior member belonging to the Bharatiya Janta Party who also served as a cabinet minister in the Ministry of Surface Transport of the government. Khanduri has been a member of the 10th, 12th, 13th, 14th, and 16th Lok Sabha Assembly representing Garhwal constituency. He is a postgraduate in defense management and began his career in politics in the year 1991. 

He is one of the top politicians of Uttarakhand and known for many of his social activities including Chadra Ballabh Trust, an educational trust started by his grandfather in the year 1917. 

3. Satpal Maharaj

Satpal Maharaj was born on 21 September 1951. He is widely famous as Shri Satpal Ji Maharaj. Satpal Maharaj is an Indian Politician of Uttarakhand and a spiritual master. He is presently serving as the Minister of Tourism, Cultural, and Irrigation in Uttarakhand. Born to Shri Hans Ji Maharaj, he belongs to the party BJP.   

Satpal joined the politics in the year 1989, earlier he was a member of Congress then ND Congress, and finally the member of BJP.  ‘Manav Utthan Sewa Samiti’, a socio-spiritual organization is founded by him.

4. Ramesh Pokhriyal

Ramesh Pokhriyal was born on 15th July 1959 in Pinani Uttarakhand. He is known by his pen name Nishank. In the Second Modi ministry, he was appointed as Minister of Human Resource Development on May 31, 2019. His title was changed to Minister of Education in July 2020. He also served as 5th Chief Minister of Uttarakhand in 2009. He is an alumnus of Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University and entered politics in the year 1991. Pokhriyal is a top politician of Uttarakhand who represented Haridwar Constituency in the 17th Lok Sabha.

Ramesh Pokhriyal has a well-established career in literature. He has written over 44 novels in Hindi many of which have been translated into English. One of his novels was adapted as a Gharhwali film. 

5. Vijay Bahuguna

Vijay Bahuguna- a renowned politician of Uttarakhand was born on February 28, 1947, in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. He served as the sixth Chief Minister of Uttarakhand in 2012. Vijay Bahuguna is the son of Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Belonging to Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), he started his political career in 2002. 

Vijay Bahuguna has a strong political family background, his sister is Rita Bahuguna is also a member of Parliament in Allahabad. He has served as a member of the 14th and 15th Lok Sabha of India representing  Tehri Garhwal Constituency, Member of Committee on Public Accounts,  Member of Standing Committee on Defence, Member of Committee on Ethics, Member of Committee on Health and Family Welfare, Member of Committee on Offices of Profit and Member of Consultative Committee in Ministry of Power. 

6. Tirath Singh Rawat

Tirath Singh Rawat is an Indian politician who was born on 9 April 1964. He belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He was the Party Chief of Uttarakhand, BJP Unit in 2013 after Bishan Singh Chufal. In 2012, he has also served as a member of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly from the Chaubttakhal constituency. After Uttarakhand was formed, he was elected as 1st education minister of Uttarakhand. 

His political career includes the positions as State Vice President of Uttar Pradesh of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, State general secretary, State Chief Electoral Officer,  Member of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council, and President of the legislative council of Uttar Pradesh.

7. Harish Rawat

Harish Rawat is a famous Politician of Uttarakhand who was born on 27 April 1948 in Almora, United Province of India (now in Uttarakhand). He served as the 7th Chief Minister of Uttarakhand during the time span of 2014 to 2017. Rawat belongs to Indian National Congress Party and has served as a Member of Parliament five times. Rawat stepped into Indian Politics in the year 1980. 

Rawat also has served as Union Minister of Water Resources from 2012 to 2014. Other positions held by Rawat are Minister of State at the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Ministry of Agriculture, and Ministry of Labour and Employment in 2009. 

8. Hira Singh Bisht

He is an Indian politician who was born in Uttarakhand and served as a Member of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly three times. He represents the Doiwala Uttarakhand Assembly constituency. Bisht belongs to the Indian National Congress (INC). Positions held by Hira Singh Bisht are:  elected to third Uttarakhand Assembly in bye Election in 2014, 

Elected to first Uttarakhand Assembly in 2002 and was elected to the ninth Uttar Pradesh Assembly. He has also served as the Cabinet minister under the ministry of Shri. Narayan Dutt Tiwari.
