On 1st May 1960, the State of Gujarat was formed out of 17 northern districts of the former State of Mumbai (then Bombay). The capital city of Gujarat, Gandhinagar also houses Gujarat Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) and the secretariat. The High Court of Gujarat is located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat has the jurisdiction of the State laws. The Chief Justice of the Court is Justice Vikram Nath.

MORARJI RANCHHODJI DESAI
Morarji Ranchhodji Desai was the 4th Prime Minister of India who hailed from Gujarat. He was an activist for the Indian Independence as well. Morarji Desai held several prominent portfolios in the government which was formed by the political party, namely Bharatiya Janata Party.
Anandiben Patel was the first woman Chief Minister of Gujarat. She is one of the top popular political leaders of Gujarat. Anandiben Patel is the Governor of Madhya Pradesh in the current phase.
Shankersinh Vaghela was the Chief Minister of the State of Gujarat from the year – 1996 to 1997 who later merged with the Indian National Congress. He was earlier one of the important leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
