She was the one who took a step to have a war with Pakistan which India eventually won and gave birth to Bangladesh. On 12 June 1975, she was declared as void for the election of Lok Sabha because of the malpractices done by her. She was proven guilty after 4 years. She got banned from parliament. The state of emergency was alerted by the President due to internal disorder. In 1977 after two back to back state emergencies she had enough guts to have a fair election and was confident about her victory, ignoring the fact that the country has suffered enough because of her. Her pride was crushed when the Janta Party under the leadership of Morarji  Desai defeated her. In 1978 after trying to get back into Lok Sabha she was arrested on several charges. Congress supporters hijacked an Indian Airline and asked to release her immediately which resulted in a much longer arrest. During her operation Blue Star in Punjab in Golden Temple, militants shot the Punjab Police Deputy Inspector General in the temple area and Gandhi allowed the army to enter the temple area by which Sikhs became angry and on 31st October 1984 she was assassinated by her Sikh bodyguards Beant Singh and Satwant Singh by their service gun as the revenge of her operation Blue Star.
