We are all aware of the popular quote that says “Revenge is a dish that is best when served cold.” It is also said that revenge for someone is best when the revenge brings happiness to someone. Just like that revenge is also a part of every game and football is no such exception. There are times when the revenge celebrations are the sole focus of the game rather than the game itself. Revenge after scoring a goal or winning a match is something that is seen quite often and something that will not fade very soon.

So, here is the list of the few of the best revenge in football.

1.Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo

It is a rivalry that deserves no such introduction. Anyone who watches football knows what stage these two great people share. This revenge dates back in 2017 when in the El-Classico Lionel Messi took off his shirt and showed it off to the fans after scoring the winning goal in the league match. Ronaldo didn’t forget it and in August 2017 he did the same in front of the fans, much to their hatred. Ronaldo won the match and also the cup, giving the revenge an even better taste.

2. Neymar vs Erling Haaland

This happened in the 2019-20 Champions League round of 16 when Erling Haaland of Borussia Dortmund scored twice in the first leg to hand the team a 2-1 victory against PSG. He celebrated both of his goals in his “calm” celebration and even said that Paris was his city. While the second leg took place, PSG overturned this result and the whole team celebrated in the same way especially Neymar, and saying that Paris is their city, not his.

3. Diego Simeone vs Cristiano Ronaldo

Everybody knows Cristiano Ronaldo as Mr.UCL and he never fails to deliver on the big stage. He was an old-time nemesis of Diego Simeone, the manager of Atletico Madrid having knocked them out of the tournament on multiple occasions. When there is talk of revenge and Mario Balotelli names don’t pop up, it would be a no-brainer. During a match in 2010 roman Weidenfeller taunted Mario Balotelli signaling he would miss the penalty and said pieces of stuff to distract him. It came of no use as he coolly dispatched the Penalty and mimicked like to stop talking as it didn’t matter to him.

5. Luis Suarez vs Patrice Evra

In 2011, in a match between Manchester United and Liverpool, before the match, Luis Suarez didn’t shake hands with Patrice Evra signaling a rivalry that occurred when it was said that Suarez used racist comments against Evra. Evra played beautifully in the match and United won the match. Evra went in front of Suarez and celebrated as if he knew no bounds.

 In the derby between Inter Milan and Ac Milan of 6 May 2012, Milan was awarded a generous penalty on the primary half final. This happened in the 2015 U-21 European championships when Luyvin Kurzawa celebrated his goal and mocked the Swedish Players. This would not bode well as the Swedish team replied soon and won the match. The whole Swedish team imitated kurzawa as his team lost the match. Maybe kurzawa celebrated a bit early!.
