The Wimbledon Championship 2020 canceled due to coronavirus outbreak

Due to the Corona epidemic, the Wimbledon Championship Tournament has been canceled. The premier Grand Slam tennis tournament will not be played for the first time after World War 2. The All England Tennis Club  (ALETC) announced the cancellation of Wimbledon at an emergency meeting on Wednesday. The new date for this year’s Wimbledon tournament is decided to be 29 June to 12 July 2021.

Earlier, the organizers of Wimbledon refused to hold the two-week tournament without an audience. The organizers had no other option but to cancel it in view of the growing case of Coronavirus infection.

Now the next edition of Wimbledon will be played in the year 2021 from 28 June to 11 July. The Wimbledon tournament started in the year 1877 and since then it was canceled only two times, World War 1 &2.  And now for the third time in 2020, this tournament has been canceled.

The Tokyo Olympics has already been postponed for 1 year. The second Grand Slam tennis tournament of the year, the French Open has also been postponed. Now this tournament will be held in September instead of May.

Eight-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer expressed his disappointment by tweeting and wrote – ” Devastated”. Seven-time champion Serena Williams said that she got shocked by this important decision.
