The Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly is constituted with 68 seats. The key political parties in the politics of Himachal Pradesh are the Indian national congress (INC) and Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP). It is said that leadership is not the representative of his political party but the aspiration and faith of the people who have elected them as their leader. Today, we are going to talk about the top political leaders of Himachal Pradesh.

1.JAI RAM THAKUR

Jai ram Thakur is the current chief minister of Himachal Pradesh and one of the popular Indian politicians. He was elected as the BJP legislative leader on 24^th December 2017. He won his first election from Chachiot (Seraj) constituency in the year of 1998. In his college life, he was an active member of ABVP. He has also served as Chairman, General Development Committee & Education Committee; and Vice-Chairman, State Civil Supplies Corporation Ltd.

2. Anurag Singh Thakur

Anurag Singh Thakur was born on 24^th October 1974. He is a member of the lower house from Harimpur in Himachal Pradesh. He is also serving as Minister of State for Finance &Corporate Affairs. As a candidate of the Bhartiya Janta Party, he was first elected in Loksabha in May 2008. He is also the son of former chief ministerPrem Kumar Dhumal. He was also awarded the SansadRatna Award last year. He was also the President of BCCI from May 2015 to February 2017. He is one of the famous leaders from Himachal Pradesh.

3. Jagat Praksah Nadda

Jagat Prakash Nadda or J. P. Nadda is one of the known Indian politicians who is currently serving as president of the Bhartiya Janta Party. He was born on 2^nd December 1960. He is former Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare. Earlier, Jagat Prakash Nadda who is Himachali by origin served as minister in Himachal Pradesh. In the year of 1993, he was elected in Himachal Pradesh legislative Assembly and marked his presence in Politics. He is the first leader from Himachal Pradesh to head the national Political Party.

4. Prem kumar Dhumal

Prem Kumar Dhumal, one of the popular Indian politician and a household name in Himachal Pradesh. He was born on 10 April 1944. He was chief ministerial candidate of the Bhartiya Janta Party for the 2017 Himachal Pradesh Assembly Election in which he lost against the congress candidate. He served two times as chief minister of Himachal Pradesh and done remarkable work. He is also known as “sadakwala chief minister” because of his significant work in infrastructure development particularly roads. He is the father of Anurag Thakur who is also an active politician and member of the lower house of Parliament.

5. Anand Sharma

Anand Sharma is an Indian politician, born on 5 January 1953. He is a former union cabinet minister in charge of commerce and industry and textiles in the government of India. Anand Sharma was a founder member of the Congress Party’s students wing the NSUI. He has also played the role of President of Youth Congress. He has done a great job as India’s commerce and Industry Minister at the time of the post-global economic crisis.

6. Mukesh Agnihotri

MukeshAgnihotri is a popular Indian political leader from Indian National Congress in Himachal Pradesh. He is currently serving as leader of the congress legislative Party in Himachal Pradesh. Mukesh Agnihotri was born on 9th October 1962. He was an acclaimed media professional as he has worked in Indian Express Group. He fought his first election of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly from Haroli constituency.

7. Ram Swaroop Sharma

Ram Swaroop Sharma was born on 10 June 1958. He is an Indian politician associated with Bhartiya Janta Party. Earlier he was an active member of RashtriyaSevaSangh (RSS). He has also served as state head of BJP Himachal Pradesh and organizing secretary of Mandi district BJP. He was elected inMandiLoksabhaseat from a BJP ticket against the congress candidate.

8. Kisan Kapoor

Kisan Kapoor an Indian politician who is associated with Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP). He is a member of the lower house (LokSabha) from Kangra Lok Sabha constituency of Himachal Pradesh. He is one of the respected senior leaders of the Bhartiya Janta Party. He is former Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs minister in the Himachal Pradesh Government. He has also been a member of the legislative assembly five times from Dharamshala constituency and also served as a cabinet minister.

9. Indu Bala Goswami

InduBalaGoswami is a popular Indian politician from Himachal Pradesh. She was elected as a member of RajyaSabha (upper house) from Himachal Pradesh on the BJP ticket. She joined the Bhartiyajanta party in the year of 1988.  She worked as vice president of BhartiyaJantaYuvaMorcha with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the 1980s. She has served for the party in her full capabilities. She has also served as chairperson of the State Women Commission Himachal Pradesh and State Social Welfare Board Himachal Pradesh.

10. Ashish Butai

Ashish Butail is one of the popular politicians of Himachal Pradesh. He is currently serving as Member of Parliament (MLA) of Palampurand nominated as a Member of the Estimates and Rural Planning Committees. He was born on 9th January 1980 to Shri Brij Behari Lal Butail (Shri BBL Butail) who is also a popular Indian politician. He started his journey with the youth wing of the Indian National Congress.
