International Yoga Day: Why and How the day is celebrated?

Yoga Day 2019: Worldwide, International Yoga Day is celebrated on 21st June. After PM Modi’s suggestion, the United Nations declared 21 June as a celebration of the International Yoga Day and gave a mantra to keep the whole world healthy.

International Yoga Day is being celebrated on June 21. On this day everyone talks about the benefits associated with yoga and shares photos while doing yoga. This year’s Yoga Day theme is Climate Action. Let it be said, June 21 is the biggest day of the year and on this day World Music Day is also celebrated.

How did the Yoga Day start?

In many countries around the world, people do yoga to stay healthy. But the start of the International Yoga Day started with the initiative of India. On September 27, 2014; Prime Minister Narendra Modi called upon the United Nations General Assembly to celebrate Yoga Day around the world. The United Nations General Assembly had announced its event within just three months after the proposal arrived. The General Assembly announced on 11 December 2014 that 21st day of June will be celebrated as Yoga Day in the world. After which people from all over the world celebrate 21 June every year as International Yoga Day.

Why is Yoga Day celebrated on June 21?

There is also a special reason for opting for the International Yoga Day on June 21. Actually, this day is the longest day in the Northern Hemisphere, which can also be called Summer Solstice. From the perspective of Indian culture, after the summer solstice, the sun turns southward and this time is very beneficial in achieving spiritual accomplishments. That is why the 21st day of June was set to celebrate International Yoga Day.
