Sun salutation or Suryanamaskar is the most foundational yoga sequence of any yoga session. It is widely practiced all over the world as an opening sequence consisting of 12 yoga postures interlinked with each other in a certain manner. The etymology of Suryanamaskar is based on two words, Surya ( the sun) + Namaskar ( salutation ), which collectively means to welcome the sun by these yoga postures. Sun salutation or Suryanamaskar is believed to have physical and mental benefits on the practitioner, along with generating a sense of gratitude towards the source of life.
