Haring is a popular dish that belongs to the Netherlands. This Dutch dish is also known as  Hollandse Nieuwe. If you love to fish in your meals then you should try this delicacy of the Netherlands. The raw herring is served with onions and gherkins. Not only the dish but the style of eating this dish is also traditional. One can have it in little pieces or as a sandwich topping called ‘broodje haring’. An interesting fact about Haring is that it is called ‘Hollandse Nieuwe’ only during May and July because the specific fish is caught in these months.

The originality of the dish can be traced to Gouda in the 18th-19th century. It is a kind of like waffle, made with butter and stuffed with sweet syrup. The batter of the waffle is made of butter, yeast, milk, flour, brown sugar, and eggs. You can get this food at any of the restaurants in Amsterdam.
