Bangladesh is a tropical land and has a lot of food items. With rivers and oceans flowing all around the country, fish is one of the most important food items that constitutes most of the cuisine in Bangladesh. Bangladeshi food items generally contain herbs, rice, fish, and meat. Being a predominantly Muslim country, the use of meat and halal is much more as compared to its counterpart in India that is West Bengal. The dishes of Bangladesh tend to have a Bengali flavor to it and almost most of the food items here are traditional. Western food items are there but people are still fond of their traditional eating habits.

Some of the famous dishes of Bangladesh to look at now

1. Hilsa/Ilish Curry

This is one of the most well known and delicious dishes made in Bangladesh. The preparation requires the fish to be marinated with chilly and turmeric. The gravy is made up of mustard and is quite spicy. The food is generally served with Rice. The Hilsa fish is readily available in the market and this is one of the most favored dishes in Bangladesh.

2. Kachchi Biriyani

Biriyani is famous all over the country, but this Kachchi biriyani is something special. This is because instead of cooking the meat or rice separately, the raw materials are cooked layered after layer. This is usually cooked in a cooking pot rather than any other modern way of cooking. The dish is often served with chutney or kebabs.

3. Khichuri

This is a plane mixture of rice and lentils but is very delicious. There are usually two types of khichuri that are the bhuna khichuri which is generally deep frying of all the spices to make the thing a bit light with less gravy. This thing can be either made with vegetables or by using chicken or lamb. The other one is normal or known as romantic khichuri. This is usually made during the monsoon season and is quite light. This is usually served with all kinds of fried items like aloo bhanja or begun(brinjal) bhanja.

4. Chingri macher Malai Curry

Changri malai curry is that the most famous Bangladesh curry dish supported coconut milk, and is revered throughout the region, including India. Chingri Malai could be a deliciously creamy, satisfying seafood curry that’s prepared by cooking prawns or shrimp with the base of coconut milk. The dish also has spices and is usually taken up with rice.

5. Dhokar Dalna

Dhokor Dalna is taken into account amongst the famous signature dishes of Bangladeshi cuisine. The dish uses lentils or dal to form a fried cake, slightly simmered in tomato-based gravy and seasoned with spices like ginger, cumin, and coriander. 7. Bhortas

Bhortas or bhartas are a bunch of dishes mainly related to Bangladesh. The foremost common ingredients utilized in bhortas include eggplants, potatoes, prawns, ilish, and other sorts of fresh and dry fish, also as numerous other vegetables and herbs. The ingredients are steamed, grilled, or roasted before they’re combined into a mash. The dish is a mixture of all the items and gives a unique taste when made.

8. Beguni

Beguni may be a simple dish consists of deep-fried eggplant slices. The variations may include dipping the slices in batter or coating them with various combinations of gram flour and spices. The batter is sometimes prepared with rice and gram flour, while the everyday blend of spices includes turmeric, flavors, and cumin.  The dish often acts as a snack or is even taken with khichuri as a side dish.

9. Haleem

This is the staple food of the Muslim community during Ramadan. This dish is a soup made up of lentil but also contains meat which is usually beef or mutton. The dish contains a lot of spices and is served with ginger chilly and fried onions. This is usually available during Eid and the month leading to it and is one of the most popular food items.

10. Sheek Kebab

In India, Kebabs are usually meant to be for chicken but in Bangladesh, sheek kebabs are generally made of mutton or beef. The meat is marinated for a long time with spices and then it is fried or barbequed. The dish in Bangladesh is served with roti or paranthas along with mint chutney and onions.

11. Doi chira

This is an authentic Bangladeshi sweet dish. It is made with sweet yogurt and chira (which is flat rice) along with fruits like banana and some other sweet fruits. It is usually served as a dessert in Bangladesh.

12. Borhani

This is a sweet drink made up of yogurt and mint. This usually is served after a meal and is believed to be help indigestion.

  1. Thank you for sharing article about Bangladesi 🇧🇩 food . I’m familiar with all those kind of food . Just like to mention ! most of the Bangladesi Cooking delicious & mostly use fresh ingredients . Bangladesi 🇧🇩 Cooking – there is no fish sauce been use . Many dishes has connection with Indian Cooking . But less Spicy & healthy .
