Buddha Poornima- A day to celebrate Buddha’s Birthday and Mahanirvana

Buddha’s birthday is a day to commemorate the birth of the Prince Siddhartha Gautama, later who became the Gautama Buddha. The day Buddha was born, the realization of knowledge and his Mahaparinirvana all took place on one day i.e Vaishakh Poornima. It is also known as Buddha Poornima. Buddha Poornima is celebrated all over the world irrespective of any religion.

This year, Buddha Poornima is on 18th May. Mahatama Buddha is the founder of Buddhism. He delivered his first sermon at Sarnath, India. At the age of eighty, he died at Kushinagar, India.

After attaining enlightenment, Buddha explains how to attain liberation from suffering for oneself alone, and in the Mahayana teaching, he explains how to attain full enlightenment, or Buddhahood, for the sake of others.
