Hansi is a small city in the Hisar district of Haryana state. Hansi is located 26 kms east of Hisar. Though Hansi is a small city but it holds great archeological importance. In ancient times, Hansi was once termed as Asigarh because Drupad, son of King Anangpal established a sword manufacturing factory in the city. Earlier, Hansi city has five gates of entry – Delhi Gate, Hisar Gate, Gosain Gate, Barsi Gate, and Umra Gate out of which only one gate exists in the present that is Barsi Gate.

From an Archeological and mythological point of view, a traveler can visit many places in Hansi. Let’s explore some of the best places to visit in Hansi.

1. Fort of Hansi

Fort of Hansi is quite famous as this ancient fort is more than 1,000 years old.  This is one of the oldest forts of Haryana protected by the Archeological Survey of India but now its walls and structures have fallen off. Now only a 50 feet high mound is there representing the ancient fort. This place must be visited in Hansi to know about the historical importance of the place.

2. Durgah Char Qutab

Durgah Char Qutab is a mythological place to visit in Hansi as this is known as the last resting place of four Sufi saints Jamal-ud-Din Hanswi, Burhan-ud Din, Qutab-ud-Din Munawwar, and Nur-ud-Din or Nur-e-Jahan who were known as Qutab. There is a large mosque in the Durgah constructed by Firoz Shah Tuglaq.

Out of the four entry gates described above, the only gate that persists now is Barsi Gate. That’s why it is the best place to visit in Hansi to know about the history of the city. Barsi Gate was constructed by Sultan Alauddin Khilji in 1303 AD was the main gate to enter the city. Now only some part of the gate is there to see Persian inscriptions.

For history lovers, Rakhigarhi is must visit place in Hansi. It is among the five known biggest townships of Harappan civilization on the Indian sub-continent. At this Harappan civilization site, under excavation, a planned township having mud-brick as well as burnt-brick houses with proper drainage system was revealed. The excavations at the Rakhigarhi site give things that are from Harrapan culture and many from medieval times like blades; semiprecious stones, bone points, terracotta and shell bangles; copper objects; animal figurines, wheel of terracotta; inscribed images, and many more.

It is a Jain Heritage having Archeological importance. The Jain temple in Hansi is known as Atishay Kshetra, a place having magical powers. The place is a must-visit place in Hansi as it has 57 Jain idols of different Jain Trithankars that came out from an excavation in the year 1982. These idols are known to be of the 8th, 9th, and 10th century and been installed in different temples in the City. The biggest and oldest temple is 350 years old.
