The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has nominated the name of the Indian Cricket team vice-captain Rohit Sharma for the ‘Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award’. Rohit’s opening partner Shikhar Dhawan has also been nominated again for the Arjuna Award. The name of India’s youngest fast bowler Ishant Sharma has also been sent for the Arjuna Award.

Left-handed batsman Dhawan missed the Arjuna Award in the year 2018. In women’s team, all-rounder Deepti Sharma has been nominated for the Arjuna Award, which has been performing brilliantly in both ODIs and T20s format for the last three years. Rohit had performed brilliantly in the ODI World Cup in 2019. The right-handed classical batsman had scored five centuries during one edition of the World Cup.  He also scored 556 runs in five Tests giving an average of 92.66. In ODI cricket, he scored 1657 runs at an average of 57.30 in 2019. If Rohit gets this honor, he will be the fourth cricketer to do so after master blaster Sachin Tendulkar, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli.

In a media release, BCCI President Saurabh Ganguly said, “We have analyzed a lot of data and tested the players on many other parameters as well, only after that the list is ready.”
