Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan: PM e-VIDYA Program- a Digital Education Platform for Students

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on her 5 Tranche of the economic package announced, a technology-driven education initiative has been taken for students called PM e-VIDYA.  PM eVIDYA Program is a part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan (self-reliant India) announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 12 to deal with the disruption caused by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

Highlights of PM-eVidyaProgramme:

1.It is a digital education initiative that will focus on multi-modal dissemination of learning. 

2. Top 100 universities will be allowed to automatically start online courses by May 30, 2020.

3. Digital Infrastructure for knowledge (Diksha) the CBSE’s learning platform will offer relevant learning material to teachers, students, and parents according to the prescribed school curriculum. For easy access to the school lessons, students can download the DIKSHA app and scan the textbook QR code.

4. For visually impaired students Radio, community radio, and podcasts will be widely used.

5. To address mental health and emotional well-being issues, Manodarpan psychological support for students, teachers, and families will be launched.

6. For students who do not have access to the internet, a TV channel ‘one class, one channel ‘from class 1 to 12 will be launched.

7. New National Curriculum and Pedagogical framework will be launched with integrated current skill requirements. This will be beneficial for school, early childhood, and teachers.

8. To ensure learning outcomes until Grade 5 National Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Mission will be launched in December 2020.
