Once there was a lion. Being a powerful animal, he was the king of the forest. He used to hunt and eat many animals in a day. All the other animals in the forest were scared of him. They were also worried about themselves being terminated soon as the lion was killing animals at an extensive rate. They all get together and make a plan to plead with the tiger to stop hunting animals and they will themselves provide him one animal daily.

They gathered the courage to go to the tiger and put their idea in front of him. The tiger agreed to that idea. They started sending one animal daily to the tiger for his meal.

One day it was the turn of a rabbit to be tiger’s meal. But that rabbit was very clever and didn’t want to be a tiger’s meal. He walked very slowly on his way towards the tiger’s cave. He also slept in his way. And thus it became evening for the rabbit to reach the tiger’s cave.

The tiger had been waiting for his meal for a long time which made him angry and so much hungry and after seeing the rabbit he yelled at him with anger that he was extremely hungry and they had just sent a very small rabbit.

The rabbit said, “your majesty” they actually sent us six including me but in our way, a tiger came and claimed himself the king of the forest. He kept the five rabbits and sent me to tell you about him.

Listening to this the tiger flared up with anger and asked the rabbit to take him to that tiger.

The rabbit took him to the well and said the tiger is inside it. The tiger looked in the well and he considered his shadow as another tiger and roared at it and looked at his reflection in the well which also roared. He thought the tiger was roaring at him back and inviting him for a fight and thus he jumped into the well, sank, and died. In this way, the rabbit saved himself and other animals from being killed by the tiger.

Moral:-

In spite of focusing on the problem, focus on the solution.

2). The Cat’s Judgement

Once a partridge used to live in a nest beneath a large Peeple tree. She was living there for many years. Once she left her home in search of food. She traveled to cornfields and stayed there for many days.

While the partridge was far away, a rabbit came to her place and made it his home. When Partridge came back she was surprised to see a rabbit at her place. She started arguing with him that it was her place and the rabbit couldn’t stay there. But the rabbit said that she wasn’t there for many days and he found the place empty. Now it’s his home.

They started arguing loudly. All the other animals around also gathered there. The rabbit and Partridge also told their issue to them. But everyone was confused and no one was able to decide whom that place belonged to.

Then they both traveled far and reached the bank of Ganges. There they saw a tom-cat. However, they were quite scared to approach him first. That cat was very evil. As he saw them he rapidly closed his eyes, stood up on his hind legs, and started praying loudly. The partridge and the rabbit thought he was a holy cat. So, they decided that he would be a good judge.

They went to him. When the cat finished his prayer and opened his eyes. Patridge explained all the arguments to him. When she finished her part, the rabbit explained his part of the story.

The cat sat quietly for a minute and then he said he is quite old. He cannot see and hear properly. He asked them to come closer and tell the story again.

They trusted the Tomcat and moved closer to him. As soon as they moved closer, the cat hit them hard with his paws, killed them, and ate them up.

Never trust a stranger, even though he seems very friendly.

Once there lived three fishes in a pond. They were best friends. The first one was very wise. He always did everything after thinking upon it carefully. The second one was very cheerful, skillful, and intelligent. He always found solutions to problems by using his sharp mind. The third one believed in fate. He thought that whatever had to happen would happen and no one could change it.

 One day the first fish heard a fisherman saying to others ” The lake is full of good fishes, let’s come tomorrow for fishing.” Hearing this the fish rushed to his friends and told them what he overheard from those fishermen. He asked the other two fishes to leave that lake through the canal and move to another.” The second fish denied that by saying, “When the fisherman will come he will find some way to save himself.”

The third fish also disagreed by saying, ” He was living here for many years. He will not leave this lake. Whatever happens, will happen.” The wise one did not want to take the risk and he left the lake. Next day when the fishermen came and cast their net. The two friends were caught. The skilled fish used his brain. He laid still and pretended to be dead. The fishermen threw him again in the pond. The fish who believed in fate kept propelling around the net and then one of the fishermen struck him dead.

Moral :-

One who doesn’t adapt to change often perishes.

4). The Musical Donkey

Once there lived a washerman and a donkey. The donkey used to lift the loads on his back for the washerman in the day. The washerman also set the donkey free in the night to eat grass. However, the donkey used to eat veggies from nearby fields. One day, while wandering into the field, the donkey met a jackal. They both became friends. They used to eat together in the night. They started meeting every night. The donkey would be back home by daybreak.

One day the jackal said to Donkey,” Uncle, I’ve found a field full of fresh juicy cucumbers not very far from here. It’s nothing less than a delicious dinner for you. I’m sure  I’ll also get some animals for myself there. Let’s go there tonight.” The donkey agreed to him and they went to that field. The donkey ate to his fullest and said, ” Nephew I’m so happy today. Look at the full moon. It’s so beautiful and makes me want to sing.”

The jackal said to him,” Uncle, we’re in another’s field eating here. If you’ll sing they will hear you and we will be caught. It’s better to forget about singing!” The donkey became annoyed and said,” A wild animal like you can’t appreciate music. I’ll show you what real music looks like.” The jackal saw that the donkey was certain to sing. So he said to him If he really wanted to sing, then let him go and conceal in the bushes out there. So that he can keep an eye on the farmers. By saying this the jackal ran towards bushes.

The donkey lifted his face towards the moon and started singing. The farmer woke up by hearing his voice. They came up with sticks and beat him a lot and made his body black and blue.

As the injured donkey walked out of the field moving slowly. The jackal came out of his hiding place and laughed, ” Uncle, you sing very well. I see that the farmers have also rewarded you.”

Moral:-

There is a time and place for everything you do.

5).  The loyal mongoose

Once a farmer found a mongoose on his way home. He thought it would be a great companion for his little son. He brought him to his home. Farmer’s little son and the mongoose became good friends soon. They used to play a lot. However, the farmer’s wife didn’t like the mongoose much.

One day the farmer’s wife had to go the market. She asked her husband to take care of the child. The farmer said her not to worry. He would take care of his child. Then her wife left. Soon, the farmer was called by a moneylender. The moneylender wanted his money back. The farmer had a good harvest and he had the money ready with him to pay back.

The baby was sleeping and thus the farmer was not able to take the baby with him. So he left the mongoose behind to take care of the baby. After some time the farmer’s wife came back with a basketful of fruits and vegetables. He saw the mongoose waiting outside the house. She looked at his face and she found that something was wrong. She noticed mongoose’s face and paws. They were filled with blood. She thought the mongoose killed her son.

She screamed at him,” you dirty creature, you killed my son.” She cried and struck the basketful on mongoose’s head. She rushed towards his son. She relaxed by looking at his son’s fine. But she saw there was a dead snake on the floor. It was torn in pieces. She understood that the mongoose killed the snake and protected his son. But she realized what she had done!!!! She rushed back to the mongoose . With tears in eyes, she lifted the heavy basket from him. The ‘ loyal’ mongoose was dead.

6). The dog and his shadow

One day it happened that a Dog had got a piece of meat. He was holding it in his mouth and going towards home. so that he can eat it in peace. Now on his way home, he had to cross a bridge lying across a running water stream. As he crossed, he looked down and saw his own shadow which was reflecting in the water beneath. He thought it was another dog with another piece of meat, he made up his mind to have that also. So he barked at the shadow in the water, but as he opened his mouth the piece of meat fell out, dropped into the water, and disappeared.

The blind man carried the lame on his shoulders. The lame man showed him the way. Thus they were able to get the ripe mangoes. They ate them and enjoyed themselves.

But the Fox immediately jumped on her back, and by putting his foot on her long horns he managed to jump up to the edge of the well.
