8 Home Made Face Masks to Cure Sunburns

Sunburnt skin can get really uncomfortable if not treated properly. Whether or not one applies sunscreen, everyone is at equal risk of getting a sunburn. The itchiness and redness caused on the skin due to a sunburn can get really tricky and uncomfortable to deal with. So, here we have come up a few homemade natural facial masks that will help treat sunburns easily. These homemade are chemical-free and can be made by using quite simple ingredients.

  • Yogurt and Aloe Vera Face Mask– Yogurt is one the best natural techniques to cure sunburns on skin. Packed with lactic acid and probiotics, it gets rid of dead skin and improves skin cell turnover. For this face mask, you will require 1 tsp of chilled yogurt and aloe vera extracts. Combine these two ingredients well and spread it smoothly on your face. Leave it on 15-20 minutes and gently wash it off with cold water.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar and Oatmeal Face Mask– Having high levels of acidic Ph and pectin, is known for soothing skin, getting rid of redness on the skin thereby improving the skin barrier. It is important to note that Apple Cider Vinegar has highly acidic, thus, it should always be combined with 2 tsp of Oatmeal or similar ingredient. For this face mask, you will require 1 cup apple cider vinegar and 1 cup of finely ground oats. Soak these two ingredients in a bowl of lukewarm water and let it sit for a while. Then, apply directly on your face and let it rest for 15 minutes. Gently wash it off afterward.
  • Cucumber and Mint Face Mask– Cucumber is packed with natural anti-oxidants and analgesic properties which makes it perfect for calming the sunburns. For this Face Mask, you will need to mash one cucumber and add a handful of fresh mint leaves. Grind these two in a fine paste and apply directly to the sunburns. Let it sit for 15 minutes and gently wash it off with cold water.

  • Potato Face Mask– Research shows that potato has a number of pain-relieving properties. Raw potato has a number of starchy compounds that help one get rid of the heat and irritation caused due to a sunburn. For this face mask, you will require 1 small potato and a few drops of tea tree oil. Grind the potato until you get a smooth paste. To this, add a few drops of tea tree oil and apply it directly to your face. Let it dry for 15-20 minutes and gently wash it off with cold water.
  • Ice Bag– is known to have a number of soothing properties which absorbs the heat of the sunburnt area thereby relieving the irritation. It can be applied directly on the sunburnt area for quick results.
  • Sandalwood and Turmeric Paste– The combination of these works wonder for sunburns on the skin as sandalwood is rich in natural oils and turmeric has various anti-inflammatory properties. These two ingredients help get rid of the redness caused due to the sunburns thereby soothing the skin from within. For this mask, mix equal amounts of sandalwood and turmeric powder. Add a few drops of rose water and combine well. Apply directly on your face and let it rest for 20 minutes. Gently wash it off with cold water.

  • Coconut Oil– it is widely used to cure sunburns on the skin due to the natural healing properties it has. Apart from this, it is also known to rejuvenate the skin by repairing the cracks caused to sunburns. Sunburns also causes pre-mature aging due to the damage caused to the skin. Using coconut oil can help control the severity of sunburns caused on the skin. Apply coconut oil on the affected area and leave it overnight.
  • Banana Face Mask– Packed with a number of nutrients and vitamins such as vitamins A and C, Bananas hydrates and restores the skin thereby curing the sunburnt skin. For this face mask, you will need one ripe banana. Mash one banana to a smooth paste and apply directly on your face. Let it rest for 15 minutes and wash it off with cold water.

Sunburns are one of the most common skin issues which seem to go unnoticed and therefore not a serious problem. But the pain and irritation it causes should not be neglected and should be treated on an immediate basis.
